I've been obsessed with Kid Cudi...

...ever since before he signed to A-Trak's label Fools Gold. When I heard he moved to Air Yeezy's GOOD, I thought to myself, "Awesome, he's totally going to make it!" However, when I expressed these sentiments to my partner-in-electro-crime, iKat, he solemnly replied, "Yah, but it means he's going to get TOO big. It's Kanye for God's sake." I contemplated this for a few minutes, but I don't think I fully grasped what he was saying--UNTIL NOW.

WOE IS ME.

It's not the fact that everyone now knows who he is that bothers me--WAIT. Actually, that's exactly the problem. One one hand, I want to be a supportive fan and be happy that he's become successful. I take pride in knowing that I was listening to his music wayyy before he was on the radio. But on the other hand, I pains me to realize that things won't be like how they were before:

CS, iKat and I making a pit stop at a sketch Coffee Time on Queen during out trek to go see his show in a REALLY small, borderline half-empty bar in Parkdale. (It really was half empty...actually, when we got there, there were like maybe 10(!) ppl in the bar). Dancing on the empty dance floor to a super sick DJ whose name I don't know but wish I did. Thinking back, that night was surreal. The DJ was SOOOO GOOD. Like, SO GOOD. Maybe, THE BEST I've ever heard in T.O. Next to us were these girls who killed it: popping and locking in roller-skating outfits circa 1980. Finally, after dancing and drinking while people slowly trickled in (including another friend AN who somehow managed to smuggle in a 40 of vodka and subsequently was openly drinking it straight from the bottle during the show), KC finally took to the stage. The thing you have to understand is that the stage was maybe the size of two king-sized beds stuck together...and about a foot off the ground. So he was RIGHT THERE. And at one point, we were all on the stage too. After Hollywood Holt performed and the house DJ came back, my friends and I noticed KC standing like maybe three feet away from us talking to some people. So, naturally, I'm the one whose afraid to go talk to him. BUT (fortunately) CS pushed me towards him, grabbed my camera, and asked him for me, to be in a pic. He was obvi totally nice and after the photo, he started talking to me. In said convo he actually told me he liked my hair. (I think I died inside. Major crush). Anywhoo, after iKat and AN conversed with him, we all headed home.

SEE! WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN AGAIN?!?!?!?!?! The only time he was in TO between then and now, he performed at the BRANT HOUSE. Which makes it obvious how TIMES HAVE CHANGED. And, as much as I wanted to see him, couldn't muster up enough je-ne-sais-quoi to actually go to BH and pay how much and dress how? GAH.

And what makes it worse is that one friend on msn has his song lyrics as her personal message, while a co-worker keeps telling me that when he comes back to TO we should compete (who says this??) for him and that I don't have a chance b/c he'd choose her over me. Um. NO.

NO.

NO.

NO.

See the issue?

Exhale. Inhale.

I went to my first yoga class in a long time today, and let me tell you, I'm never letting life get in the way of achieving internal peace ever again. I do practice on my own, but its not the same without someone guiding your movement and aligning your postures. (And this teacher is so good...its really a workout). Even though I'm really tired, I can't help but feel energized right now. I think I've told everyone I know about how it changed my life back in the day, and while it may sound cliche, its completely true. Sigh. Tomorrow is going to be so good. Namaste.

Life.

There comes a time when you realize that some people in your life aren't there for the right reasons. While this is an ongoing process, I came to this conclusion about a certain group of people months, maybe even years ago. I put up with the relationships at the time, but now I've realized, am finally letting go. Is it bad that I don't care that I'm losing these friends? That there are less people in my phonebook and more useless people on facebook?

I'm not going to lie, I do feel lonely at times. But the fact that I'm choosing to be by myself than with certain others says something.

There's always a feeling of sadness and nostalgia during processes like these, but they're necessary in order to feel the freedom and happiness that's lurking just around the corner.

New and slightly odd pastime.

Instead of doing school work, I've recently found myself on more than one occasion doing practice LSAT questions...for fun.

Weird how my procrastination style has evolved.

Passion.

I'm so excited for my Hist. of Evol. course! We get to debate topics surrounding the 'controversies' surrounding evolution: everything from eugenics to creationism. (I put quotations around controversies because I don't personally consider them debatable. In my opinion there is plain fact and fiction). I hope its really intense. And that people get worked up. The only problem is there's a group project! Gah. WHY?! In all of my four years of university I never had to do anything with a group except for in labs. This semester I have like 4 group projects/presentations. It sucks because I'm so enthusiastic about my classes this semester...but I'm stuck in groups with people I feel aren't into it.

You know that feeling of knowing exactly how to do something? When you're so sure of yourself in the moment that you just want to do what you have to do and get everything over with? That's how I feel about this semester. I'm up for every challenge they throw my way. But because of the group projects there's formality and a process; making sure we're all on the same page, that we're splitting up the work evenly, meeting outside of class, etc, etc. I hate the system behind it; the waiting around. For once in my life I don't want to procrastinate. I don't want to put things off. I wish that I knew everyone I had to work with this term felt the same way. And that, in the words of Nike, we could just do it.

Random musings II

I absolutely love the warm, cozy look of Tudor-style homes;

But the airiness of floor-to-ceiling windows mixed with the structure and support of granite and stone does it for me every time. Every time.

Musings.

New goal in life: to be able to say, at least once, that I'm lost between time zones.

This bug usually gets me around this time each year...and this year is no exception.  It seems like every year, once the Christmas holidays are over and there is nothing new to look forward to except for ecology courses with the exact same students and the exact same profs, the travel bug hits me. The only cure for said bug is to get out. Out of house and home. Out of the country if one is lucky. Usually I'm unable to leave the boundaries of Toronto and thus, I usually suffer through the worst of the storm, hopelessly waiting for the buds to spring and for summer to arrive. This year, however, I have the perfect cure for the illness that has plagued me with its presence for the past few weeks. I'm thankfully able to say that in approximately 5 weeks I will be lapping up the rays under a wide-brimmed hat on a beach in Barbados.

Although 5 weeks is definitely a short while, there is so much to do before then and there is so much due before then. My iCal for Janufeb is painted red with school assignments. Not to mention all of the stuff I have to do for this trip. I'm definitely not complaining that this isn't some all-inclusive vacation, however I have so much research to get done/approved before I can get on the plane.

Like research fire coral, for example.

Back in the swing of things.

So I finally have a finalized schedule. This semester's not looking so bad. I'm signed up for 'History of Evolution II: 1930s and beyond'. I think it'll be interesting. Apparently we get to debate in the tutorials so that should be fun. When I look back on my academic course choices I find my evolution so obvious. I used to hate taking courses with a participation/discussion mark, but now I seek them out.

Ouch.

My wisdom teeth were removed about 7 hours ago.
While the drugs they gave me were fun (I laughed and wanted to sleep), my mouth hurts like crazy right now. And I'm swollen on one side. And I've run out of gauze.
They did however, among the three different pills the doc prescribed me, give me percocet to take for the next 10 days...woot!

Insomniac

I've been having trouble sleeping lately and its really, really disheartening. Even when I'm tired and go to bed early, I can't fall asleep and I end up just tossing and turning for hours in my bed. The EEBUers have deduced that its stress. That's probably the reason, but still...stress never did this to me before. What's happening?

Almost done.

(Urban again.)

Done.

(Urban.)

The look.

Instead of doing anything but go out on NYE, I went shopping. While the previous has no element of surprise (obviously I would go shopping instead of do anything 'fun' on NYE), my trip to H&M was indeed surprising. They're good again! The entire spring collection is filled with loose-fitting khakis, pale denim and pastels. It's classic yet modern and up-to-date. Basically how I want to dress this summer. And for the rest of time. I love it! (Also they're sale section is filled with great stuff right now too!)

Some examples:
Serious crack.
I'm pretty sure I bought these pants.

Spandex shorts!!!

I find it odd that the only course I'm excited for this semester is Biostatistics. Statistics...

lundi 5 janvier 2009

I don't know where to begin.

Friday was fun. Had a little get-together chez moi. Totally wanted to cancel it beforehand (since I'm not one for having parties at my house), but I'm glad I didn't.

Saturday I had to work all day, but afterwards I went out to dinner and watched Benjamin Button with a co-worker. Great night.

On Sunday I had an on-call shift at work. When I called in, the manager was acting all secretive and weird. Basically at the morning meeting they tried to think of ways to trick me to come into work, even though they didn't need me to. Thank God she felt bad and told me the truth. So, because I didn't have to work, I got to go with my parents to drive my bro back to Guelph!

Before we departed for Guelph, I accidentally tripped over the fraying power cord of my already broken computer and totally damaged the cord completely. On our way back from Guelph I bought one of those generic power cords to use with my comp, but when I got home it didn't work!

So today, I returned it and bought another one, thinking that the first one wasn't compatible. Obviously, with my luck, the second one didn't work and there's really a problem with my computer. So I went to the Apple store and spoke to this really friendly associate named Terrence about everything from Olestra and how it causes anal leakage to how I was named after my father.

Anyway, long story short, I bought a new comp! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to the movies NOW.

This weekend has so far been great and I'll go into more detail later.

This post has been published for the sole purpose of publicizing the fact that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button might very well be the BEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN.
Definitely, one of the top 5.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD.

Go see it now. Right now.

SO GOOD.
