Description: More than 24" (61 cm) high, more than 18" (46 cm) wide. Upright, branching or platelike, on coral rock or encrusting mollusk shells or skeletons of horny corals. Brown to creamy-yellow. Covered with tiny pores occupied by whitish polyps.
Habitat: Coral reefs, cement pilings, and other submerged structures.
Range: Florida to Mexico; Bahamas; West Indies.
Warning Highly toxic. People touching the Fire Coral suffer a severe burning sensation and blistery rash.
